Sofitel on Renmin Square
Outside it’s a fairly typical commercial building, about as Chinese as any Sofitel anywhere — which is to say, not a lot at all. Inside, though, there’s a generous helping of local color, from the rich colored fabrics in the rooms (it wasn’t called the Silk Road for nothing) to the rows of vases in the restaurant, a visual allusion perhaps to the Terra Cotta Soldiers in Qin Shi Huang’s mausoleum, less than an hour to the east.
Services include the usual array of five-star offerings, as well as some rather unique ones — restaurants include the usual Cantonese and Mediterranean offerings as well as a Muslim restaurant, serving halal cuisine as a tribute to the region’s Islamic history (yes, really).

Great location and facilities with great restaurants and gym and pool
Quality you can count on in a small Chinese city. Very comfortable beds, decent room service (had a club sandwich in the middle of the night after a wedding party). The service at the lobby hotel was good, although atmosphere could be better. It seemed quiet so I didn't want to order a glass of wine from a bottle that was opened for longer than a few days. I asked the staff to check for me which wine is just recently opened and they did just that. I was happy with my fresh chardonnay! Bar snacks were also tasty; tried sweet preserved tomatoes for the first time!
We took advantage of the upgrade offer to a club room and club privileges for our four day stay. The room was very well designed ... a comfortable place to rest in, during days of exploring exotic corners of Xi'an on our own. The restaurants were all very good.
The service was impecable, the room was huge (I got a free upgrade because I am TabletPlus member), and the breakfast. Definitely recommended.
