There’s more to Palm Springs than Fifties and Sixties modernism. Here at the edge of town, at the foot of the San Jacinto mountains, Korakia is a highly eclectic blend, with nary a kidney-shaped pool to be found. The original 1924 Moroccan-style villa, the home of a Scottish painter, was given a Greek makeover sometime in the Nineties; and the two houses next door, a Mediterranean villa and a Spanish-style adobe house, were added soon after.
So it’s clear that Korakia has personality to spare. The other thing it’s got, in spades, is the kind of exclusive small-scale luxury that’s so in demand right now. The rooms and suites are exquisitely private, hidden away in the corners of the old villas and surrounded by gardens and courtyards, and even come with kitchens in case you’re planning on barricading yourself in.
Breakfast is served in the Moroccan courtyard, which the mild Palm Springs weather rarely interferes with, and the property abounds with hiding places; a lounge, a library, a fire pit and a couple of outdoor pools. Spa treatments and yoga classes are available as well — there’s little chance you’ll leave here feeling any stress at all.
