Masseria Corsano

Many a Puglian masseria hotel leaves its original stone farmhouse in more or less its natural state, making the patina of age an integral part of the presentation. Masseria Corsano, however, takes things in a rather more orderly, intentional direction. Behind the stacked-stone exterior walls of this agricultural estate, set near the east coast of Italy’s Salento peninsula, is a deceptively modern compound containing a thoroughly stylish 15-suite luxury boutique hotel.

Certain gestures are made in the direction of classic Puglian interior design, from the whites, grays, and creams of the color palette to the archways and other stonework that remain from the original structure. And while modern Italian luxury design is no longer a novelty down south, Masseria Corsano’s design is notable for the effortlessness with which it combines these aesthetics — and for luxuries like the Kos Zucchetti whirlpool in every suite.

The nearest substantial settlement is the Baroque town of Nardò, just a few miles inland, while Lecce is an hour or so away by car. Masseria Corsano, however, is capable of providing a fully self-contained experience; the bartenders at the hotel’s 32 Lounge pour locally inspired cocktails showcasing housemade ingredients, and MC Restaurant serves a fine modern version of authentic Salentine fare.
