Château de Maubreuil looks, and feels, like a picture-perfect countryside hotel, but its location on the outskirts of Nantes means the bright lights of the city are always nearby. The château and its grounds feel lost in time — and whilst the castle may put you in mind of the early 19th century, its travel-themed rooms and suites are elegant and eclectic, each one entirely different, paying tribute to destinations from around the globe. Minuit à Paris for example, is lavishly dressed with leopard print and red highlights, whilst in Mongolie mon Amour, printed wallpaper depicting Mongolian scenes surrounds a tent-like four poster bed.
Hidden in the historic vaulted cellars is a Cinq Mondes spa, or to immerse yourself in nature, book a massage in the outdoor Gazebo, surrounded by a bamboo forest. Back at the hotel Table du Marquis takes inspiration from the great Parisian brasseries to serve up a menu of beloved French classics, whilst Bar Zélélé is the setting for the hotel’s Sunday afternoon tea, evening cocktails, and a regular program of wine and mixology masterclasses; it’s joined in summer by the poolside Salon Nomade.
