A hotelier in Charleston — or, in the Post House’s case, the impossibly picturesque neighboring community of Mount Pleasant — can’t help but lean in to the region’s trademark genteel charm. That’s certainly the Post House’s strength; this well-preserved 19th-century house has been refashioned as a boutique inn, perhaps most properly understood as a very fine restaurant with a handful of beautifully crafted guest rooms. The style feels inevitable but at the same time studiously avoids cliché, which is no easy feat; the result is unique and memorable, which is for us more or less the whole ball game.
