Two MICHELIN Keys · An exceptional stay
Los Cabos is pretty close to paradise already, but there are few locations that wouldn’t be improved by the addition of a top-class hotel. This is where the California-based Auberge Resorts comes in. Though they’re best known for their luxury resorts in the Napa and Sonoma valleys, they’ve got history here, having operated the nearby Esperanza for almost two decades — and now, just up the road in the direction of San Jose del Cabo, Chileno Bay Resort & Residences.
This coastline is rough, but Chileno Bay, in a protected cove, happens to be one of the area’s only swimmable beaches. The resort shades seamlessly from villas to infinity pools to the beach, and provides a feeling of seclusion — you’d never know you were in just one of a 20-mile string of hotels and resorts. And however remote it may feel, the location, right in between the two Cabos, could hardly be more convenient.
The resort’s visual style is surprisingly sophisticated, a contemporary minimalist look that lets the setting — and the substantial comforts of the rooms and villas — take center stage. At very least, your room will come with a private terrace, a soaking tub and a separate outdoor shower, and some 760 square feet of space; the villas sprawl, with two, three, four, or even six bedrooms, and all the comforts of a private residence.
And of course Chileno Bay’s appeal goes beyond its living quarters. Aside from the cascading three-tiered swimming pool there’s a spa and a fitness center with an enormous number of class offerings as well as a golf course by Tom Fazio, and nature’s own Sea of Cortez. And Comal, the terrace restaurant and bar, serves inventive Mexican fare and cocktails in a space that’s open to the breeze from — and views of — the sea.
