Positioned beside the Kusakabe Family Residence, an old merchant’s house designated an Important Cultural Property, the century-old inn is an extension of its notable neighbor, both showcasing ancient Japanese techniques carried out by local craftsmen. The residence functions like a museum, while Taniya is a traditional two-story wooden townhouse with clay walls, earthen floors, decorative shoji screens, finely made tatami mats, and a cypress bath overlooking a quiet courtyard. Since the property is rented out in its entirety, guests have exclusive access to the house’s peaceful tea room, an elegant wood-lined kitchen, and a stylish reading room with sculptural furniture made by a local artisan.
