The building that contains Drift Santa Barbara is a beautifully renovated example of Twenties Spanish architecture, in keeping with the picturesque local style. All the more surprising, then, that its interiors are so beautifully minimalist, a masterful blend of simple clean lines and warm, richly textured organic materials. The result is quite possibly the most stylish hotel in town, in its somewhat quiet and understated way. The location is central, within walking distance of the beach and much else, and even within its own walls it’s got a bit of social life: Dawn, a cool surf-inspired coffee bar, and Dusk, serving oysters and ceviche alongside tequila and other spirits.
