A modest little gem hiding practically in plain sight, Hôtel Square Louvois stands just across the eponymous square from the National Library, a few minutes’ walk in either direction from the Palais Garnier and the Louvre. It’s modest when compared to Paris’s grand hotels and its most exuberant boutiques, but it’s a reminder that great taste is just as valuable as a grand gesture.
Rich, sober colors dominate the interiors of this Art Deco classic, and lend a warmth and intimacy to its public spaces. The rooms carry on in the same vein, which are brought to life with accents in houndstooth textiles and oversized black-and-white photography. Even the single rooms are comfortable, with all the modern must-haves, from Bluetooth sound systems to L’Occitane bath products, and the Family suites and the split-level Saint-Anne suite edge into truly luxurious territory.
There’s a wellness area in the cellar, including a pool beneath a picturesque stone vault. A thoughtful breakfast is the extent of the kitchen’s duties, supplemented by an afternoon tea service; the location is just about as central as a Parisian hotel can get, and the number of restaurants and cafés within walking distance is practically incalculable.
