An hour west of Granada, in the olive-strewn hills of Andalusia, the Hotel La Bobadilla sprawls over a thousand-acre estate in the manner of a Moorish village, all whitewashed buildings, winding paths and courtyard after courtyard connected by arched walkways. This is one of the finest hotels in the Spanish countryside, a haute-luxury escape for travelers from all over Europe and beyond, with faultless service of the old school, and the sort of discreet privacy that goes along with it.
Out here in the hills, space is at no shortage; the guest rooms are vast, from the double rooms to the most excessive suites, and all are lavishly furnished and come with balconies or terraces overlooking the inner courtyards or the picturesque Andalusian landscape. Often the measure of a luxury hotel is in the bathrooms, and these ones more than pass muster, elegant, with plenty of space and deep soaking tubs, some with views.
Two tennis courts, two pools and a spa and fitness center round out the leisure facilities. Spain isn’t about to relinquish its hold on Europe’s culinary imagination anytime soon — La Finca has been recognized with a Michelin star. Of particular note is the chapel, with its astonishingly old pipe organ — not a bad venue for a proposal, and there’s every chance of catching a wedding in progress on any given weekend.
