The upscale Atlanta district of Buckhead has long been a hotbed of hotel luxury, but Nobu Hotel Atlanta expands the scene in a new direction. What originally seemed like a one-off — an unlikely collaboration between the restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa and the actor Robert De Niro — is now a global luxury-boutique phenomenon, whose signature cocktail of sharp, modernist-inspired design and Japanese-Peruvian cuisine is a welcome addition to the unofficial capital of the American South.
Interiors are crisp and contemporary, but still warm and welcoming — hipper than the typical Atlanta luxury hotel, but never off-puttingly avant-garde. The comforts are first-rate, both in-room and out; the rooftop saltwater pool is a particular delight. A rooftop lounge serves cocktails by the poolside, while the main event is Nobu Atlanta, which imports Japanese aesthetics alongside a Japanese culinary philosophy, creating an experience that’s like nothing else in town.
