Fasano Angra dos Reis

Brazil’s Fasano hotels are local favorites for their triple threat of high-end luxury, ultra-glamorous aesthetics, and exquisite gastronomy, and while the Fasano Angra Dos Reis, in the lush Costa Verde region, may attract less international attention than its sister hotel in Ipanema, it’s not for lack of any of the aforementioned attributes.

Like the rest of the family, it’s sleek and state-of-the-art, with a fantastic swimming pool and sweeping sea views fringed with palm trees. Guest rooms are as luxe as you’d expect, with marble bathrooms and private patios — most have sea views, too, and all come with complimentary Havaianas flip-flops to help you get up (or down) to speed with the way the locals live.

The hotel’s eponymous fine-dining restaurant serves a dizzying array of seafood-based creations, while the casual beachside Praia serves lighter fare. Also on the agenda are a French-style patisserie, a spa, and a kids’ club; hikes and boat trips are easily arranged. But no one will fault you if you kick off your complimentary flip-flops and settle into a chaise, coconut water or caipirinha in hand, and do absolutely nothing.
