Kyah - Boutique Hotel

Rather like California, Australia is finding its retired motels to be fertile raw material for renovations. Kyah, in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, takes Palm Springs as its aesthetic inspiration, turning a Seventies motel into a very modern — but still Seventies-inspired — 46-room boutique hotel. The rooms retain their external entry — no lobby or corridors here — and they range from a single king bed to a two-bedroom suite complete with a spa bath. The restaurant, Blaq, is named for the location, in Blackheath, and emphasizes its connection with the local environment; ingredients are grown on-site, when possible.
