The country counterpart to its sister hotel in Siem Reap, Shinta Mani Wild offers more than just a change of scenery. In order to preserve the indigenous forest, its 15 tented suites and all of its public spaces are built on elevated platforms. Some more elevated than others — as of this writing, Shinta Mani Wild is the only hotel we know of where guests have the option to arrive via zipline.
Like Shinta Mani Angkor, Shinta Mani Wild was conceived and designed by Bill Bensley, the California-born, Bangkok-based architect whose work set the tone for a generation of Southeast Asian luxury resorts. Here he’s in a particularly expressive mode, which means these tented suites are full of details that evoke various chapters in Cambodia’s history, with a particular focus on the glamorous 1960s.
And though it’s a tented camp, with extraordinary measures taken to protect the local flora and fauna, no compromises are made in the area of comfort. The rate is truly all-inclusive, covering not just food and drink but also unlimited spa treatments — and it subsidizes the local conservation efforts, which not only make this experience possible, but aim to safeguard it for future generations.
