The Share Hotels are the Japanese boutique-hotel brand we always wished for — connected to tradition, sure, but unafraid to experiment with the forms and concepts of 21st-century hospitality. Their hotel in Nara, the ancient capital of Japan, is rather more on the historically-informed side than, say, their Tokyo outposts, but that’s just as it should be. Miroku Nara by The Share Hotels is the work of an all-star team of young and hip architects, designers, and art and music curators, and the hotel’s ceramics, textiles, and cuisine are no less thoughtfully conceived. Nara may be rooted particularly deeply in the past, but this is the city at its most modern.
