Contemporary Classic & Quiet
Given the small size of Nantucket’s downtown historic district, to have just one house there would be a stroke of good luck. To have six — especially four in a cluster all together — is extraordinary. Faraway Nantucket finds itself in exactly this situation: six houses, as old as 1846 and as new as 2013, around a courtyard lounge, converted into a 58-room boutique inn.

The rooms and suites vary in size and layout — those in the Meeting House are perhaps the most modest, while those in the Roberts House are the most lavish — but all are decorated in a contemporary-classic maritime New England style that’s perfectly balanced between local tradition and boutique-hotel chic. And for all their old-world charm they’re modern where it counts, with comforts that are the equal of any contemporary hotel.

And at the heart of it all is Sister Ship, the hotel’s café, restaurant, and bar. Here you’ll find seafood-focused, Mediterranean-accented fare, as well as inventive cocktails, all in a space that’s as eclectically stylish as Faraway Nantucket’s houses. Meanwhile, given the hotel’s location in the heart of downtown Nantucket, you’re never more than a few steps away from the rest of the town’s cafés, restaurants, and shops, and recommendations flow freely from the staff at the reception desk.
