MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

You can only make a riad hotel so big. But if you’re stuck for size, you can join them together — La Sultana, for example, combines four traditional Marrakchi courtyard mansions into one contiguous complex, and in so doing creates one of the medina’s most complete luxury hotels. In some towns 28 rooms and suites would still fall decidedly on the small side, but here numbers like that make La Sultana one of the biggest players in town.

All that makes for plenty of space to spread out, and the pools, fountains, courtyards and rooftop terraces are seemingly endless. But they didn’t skimp on style either — this place is stunningly decorated, ornately detailed, with a definite flair for the dramatic, from crimson-colored bedroom walls to the massive and decadent Romanesque spa.

There’s marble everywhere, and the traditional brickwork creates a signature texture. And the service is no less impressive than the physical edifice itself — this is a professional operation, the likes of which is (for better or worse) quite rare in the medina. If you want the illusion of a casual visit with a rich local friend, La Sultana’s not where you’ll find it. But if the classic virtues of opulence and luxury have any appeal, then this just might be the place.

There is a 3-night minimum stay requirement for all high-season dates at La Sultana Marrakech.

How to get there:
La Sultana Marrakech is approximately a 15-minute drive from Marrakech-Menara Airport. As Marrakech can be a hard place to navigate, we encourage guests to arrange for airport transfers (€35 each way).
