It’s hard to imagine a hospitality experience much more delicious than a farmhouse hotel in the hills of Piedmont. Nordelaia begins with an 800-year-old farmhouse, extensively reimagined by the London-based design studio These White Walls; the result is still beautifully rustic but now also unmistakably modern, full of historical details interwoven with modern fixtures and furnishings.

Each of its rooms and suites is one-of-a-kind; the suites, in the attic up under the eaves, are the most distinctive and spacious, but there isn’t a subpar lodging in the house. And the amenities, however subtle, are modern and high-end, especially the bathrooms, with their sleek spa-like aspect.

For so small a hotel, Nordelaia comes with a remarkably full-featured spa and fitness offering, as well as a stunning infinity-edge pool with views of the Piedmontese countryside. Chief among Nordelaia’s attractions, however, are its restaurants, sharing a dedicated building next door to the farmhouse: the Lounge Bar, for an aperitif and light bites; the Bistro, for a casual introduction to the classic flavors of Piedmont; and L’Orto, the fine dining experience, serving modern and artfully composed renderings of seasonal local fare.
