Modern Design & Lively
In 1969, the Spanish journalist Joan de Sagarra coined the term gauche divine to describe the generation of young artists, writers, actors, and creatives who opposed Franco’s dictatorship. The entire first floor of Sixties Ramblas is dedicated to their legacy. This boutique hotel, as the name suggests, celebrates the sixties in Barcelona. Modern with a stylish vintage twist, the place is like a museum, with pop art, murals, and photos capturing iconic symbols from paella and bullfighting to flamenco dancing and the advent of the bikini. Guest rooms are sleek and compact, with hardwood floors and retro-inspired tile showers; some have balconies or terraces. There’s a billiards room and a bike rental stand, as well as a good-looking cocktail bar and restaurant — and thanks to the hotel’s central location, just blocks from La Rambla and the waterfront, countless other options are just outside the door.
