Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc

It’s harder than you might think to find luxe seclusion on the Côte d’Azur, but from here, at the far end of the Cap d’Antibes, the busy streets of Cannes are no more than a memory. When it opened in the 19th century, the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc had its choice of locations; this site, surrounded by pine forests and facing out to sea from its rocky perch, feels like something of an isolated Eden.

The hotel’s grandeur hasn’t dimmed since the days of F. Scott Fitzgerald, and it retains much of its historical atmosphere. The rooms and suites have been kept up to date, and supplied with all the expected modern conveniences, but their look would be familiar to guests from a century ago. Three villas provide an extra measure of privacy and seclusion, and sleep up to ten; the style is a touch more modern, but only a touch.

Separate from the main hotel building is the seaside pavilion that backs up directly onto the rocks. Here you’ll find the flagship Eden-Roc Restaurant, and next to it, a salt-water swimming pool carved from the rock face. A Dior spa and a handful of other dining and drinking venues complete the package — this is the sort of luxury hotel that leaves nothing out.
