The Tanneries Hotel and Spa
Plenty of the buildings’ original character remains: their red roof tiles, high ceilings, exposed stone walls, and vaulted wood beams hold up particularly well. An antique well is visible through a glass panel on the restaurant floor, and the old dyeing pits were converted into an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi. The interiors are minimalist, featuring lots of concrete and glass, blonde wood, and — of course — leather. Suites are quietly luxurious with built-in modular furnishings and travertine bathrooms. The main thing, whether in rooms with small balconies or two-level suites with fireplaces, Jacuzzis, and terraces, is the unobstructed ocean view. The same is true at the striking spa and at Periplous Seaside, the hotel’s stylish restaurant, where modern Cretan cuisine is served on a picturesque open-air terrace.
