It’s a warmer, more welcoming side of the nation’s capital, and the same goes for The Avery Georgetown, a warm and welcoming luxury boutique hotel — it’s smaller and more personable than the capital’s five-star business chains, and its style is a refreshing mix of the neighborhood’s historical influences and clean, contemporary boutique-hotel design.

It’s made from a pair of Federal-style buildings, whose restored exteriors blend seamlessly into the neighborhood but whose interiors are spare, bright, and stylish. Fifteen rooms means the staff is on speaking terms with every guest in the house, and while there’s nothing quite on the level of a presidential suite, you might be occasionally surprised at the loftiness of the crowd. There’s a breakfast spread that includes pastries, fruit, coffee, and tea, and a nightly reception featuring craft beers and local wines. Beyond that, you’re at the mercy of the neighborhood — thankfully Georgetown suffers no shortage of dining and drinking venues, to say nothing of shops, cafés, and picturesque sights.
