Set in the Berkeley Hills, just a mile from the University of California campus, the Claremont Club & Spa is a grand century-old landmark, and, like the famous Canadian railway hotels, a prestigious feather in the Fairmont cap. Rooms range across numerous categories and layouts, but they’re uniformly luxurious and handsome, as are the services and facilities, from the Limewood Bar & Restaurant to the extensive recreation offerings, including the expansive fitness center, multiple outdoor pools, and the fully equipped Claremont Tennis Club. On a clear day you can see San Francisco from here, but a bit far for commuting — it’s really better suited to the Berkeley and East Bay experience.
