Some hotels keep a low profile, but not Hammetts — this one occupies a prominent position on Newport’s waterfront, in a contemporary structure built in a throwback maritime-industrial style that makes it right at home on the harbor. In practical terms this means oversized windows with views of the marina, and plenty of crisp blue and white — but a refreshing absence of anything you’d call seafaring kitsch. The building also encompasses a couple of upscale shops and a substantial outdoor lounge area, as well as a restaurant, Giusto, specializing in seafood and housemade pasta, with a lively outdoor bar.
