Behind an antique half-timbered façade in Brussels is Le Berger, a hotel once used as a clandestine meeting place for lovers; these days it’s rather more versatile, and its minimalist modern addition is a lively contrast both with the original structure and with the ornate, colorful, historically inspired rooms inside. Fripon, the restaurant, caters to a mix of hotel guests and in-the-know locals, as does the retro-styled hotel bar; and as the name may suggest, a secret garden, complete with a heated swimming pool and a massage area, is the hotel’s most unique feature.
