Three Keys in Bordeaux: The Hot Spring Hotel in Wine Country

The iconic spa at Les Sources de Caudalie is built around the mineral waters of a thermal spring deep underground. That's just the beginning.

There are wellness hotels, and then there are hotels like Les Sources de Caudalie. Awarded Three Keys, our highest hotel honor, it's nestled into the prestigious vineyards of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte winery just outside Bordeaux.

Here, 62 rooms and suites provide perfect cocoons of relaxation — but today, we're looking at one space in particular.

The Sublime, Spring-Fed Spa: Natural Waters Meet Vinotherapy

Thermal waters 540 meters below the surface feed the mineral-rich soaking pool here at the remarkable Les Sources de Caudalie spa. It is the pièce de résistance of the grounds and, two and a half decades after its founding, a testament to the vision of hoteliers Bertrand and Mathilde Thomas, who happen to be the co-founders of the French cosmetic brand Caudalie.

In the beauty world, Caudalie is known for skincare products infused with grape extracts. In the numerous treatment rooms, guests capitalize on that expertise with vinotherapy scrubs and massages. The signature treatment is the Resveratrol Lift facial, a 50-minute communion with grape oils to add shape, definition, and glow.

Other pleasures include hammam, swimming pool, and jacuzzi, all set in spaces built with rustic materials, often reused. Old beams, tiles, and stones contribute to a deeply satisfying contrast between rustic pleasure and purest luxury.

The Hotel

Where:

Just a few kilometers from the center of Bordeaux, amongst the vineyards of the renowned Château Smith Haut Lafitte. The winery dates back to the 14th century, and holds an exclusive Grand Cru Classé distinction. It’s in this setting that you can soak up the thermal waters.

Who Stays Here:

Burnt-out instagrammars, lovers of fine Bordeaux wines, Jay Z and Beyoncé. Visit when you need a true mental and physical cure. The spa is open to guests and visitors alike.

Here's a Hint:

The most iconic room at the hotel is L'Île aux Oiseaux. Its name evokes the nature reserve of the Arcachon Basin, less than an hour's drive away. Imagined as a vast cabin with a single room by interior designer Rabih Kayrouz, its a terrace (on stilts) opens onto another magnificent, naturally-fed pool.

Room Service?

The hotel has three different restaurants: La Grand Vigne, La Table du Lavoir, a gourmet bistro, and Rouge, a wine bar and casual restaurant offering plates from the southwest of France. And yes, breakfast, lunch and dinner can be served in your room (with a dedicated room service menu).

How to Book It:
