MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

From its discreet entrance to its elegantly dressed room, Umu has always been a restaurant for that special occasion. Courteous service adds to the experience, with the team able to offer helpful advice, whether guests are experienced Japanophiles or those simply wishing to learn more. The restaurant is influenced by the traditions and delicate cuisine of Kyoto, where the philosophy of kaiseki is preserved and celebrated. But you can also expect more than a nod to its UK location as many of the ingredients used by the experienced kitchen are from these isles. Those ingredients are of irreproachable quality and their natural flavours are always brought to the fore. Some dishes are simple; others presented with a flourish at the table – but all are prepared with considerable care and respect.
