The Shoals Suites & Slips
Danish-born architect Thomas Juul-Hansen’s design lends the Shoals a unique personality, full not only of Northeastern maritime character but a European modernist influence as well. The materials are warm and organic above all else, starting with the traditional cedar shingles that adorn the building’s exterior. And the suites themselves come with all the necessities, including kitchenettes and plush robes and slippers.
Yoga classes and boat charters are among the Shoals’ most popular offerings, and its restaurant, a so-called “shuck shack” operated by the female-owned Little Ram Oyster Company, is a perfect choice to round out the experience. There’s a general store that doubles as a café, and while neighboring Southold is small, it’s home to some fine restaurants, while the North Fork wineries lie further to the west.
