Voluntary Information

Sensitive Personal Information

- Information we collect about you from your Michelin Guide Account
Michelin, an expert in recommending restaurants and accommodation, and its subsidiary Tablet, which specializes in listing boutique hotels and upscale establishments, are combining their expertise to offer a joint selection through the joint Michelin Guide account. The Michelin Guide application gives you the possibility to create a user account to manage your favorites and reservations.
This novel approach is designed to enable our users looking for unique experiences to quickly find and reserve both a restaurant and a hotel from a list of unusual addresses.
Insofar as Michelin and Tablet jointly define the means and methods of collecting Personal Data related to the Michelin Guide Account, they are therefore jointly responsible for processing in accordance with data protection regulations. As such, the data collected via the Michelin Guide Account will be processed by each for all or part of the purposes specified below.

If you no longer wish to receive these emails, you can easily unsubscribe at any time. You may do so in several ways:
- There is always an unsubscribe option at the bottom of every marketing communication we send you; and
- You may also contact us using the contact form or by postal mail using the contact details provided in this Privacy Policy, specifying the subject of your request and the relevant Michelin product or service (e.g., restaurant selection).
If you have subscribed to any of our services or booked a restaurant through us, you will continue to receive emails related to those services and bookings, including confirmation emails and reminder emails. If you choose to stop receiving marketing emails from us, this will not affect service-related emails, which form an integral part of the services provided by us and by the Restaurants and Hotels.
Marketing from Restaurants and Partner Networks
When you book a Restaurant, you may also have the option to opt-in for marketing communications from that Restaurant or Partner. We will always ask you for your express consent before allowing Restaurants or Partner Networks to market to you. Restaurants and Partner will have access to information on which individuals have opted-in and which have chosen not to opt-in.
Marketing by the Restaurants and Partner are subject to their own privacy policies and you should consult these privacy policies for further information.
- Our relationship with Restaurants
Although we generally act as a Data Controller when you use our services directly (for example, when you use our websites or mobile applications), we also provide our reservation services to third parties such as Restaurants and Hotels. When we provide our services to Restaurants—for example, when a Restaurant uses our reservation platform on its own website—the Restaurant engages us as a service provider. This means that we are not the Data Controller in that context and that we act as a Data Processor on behalf of the Restaurant.
We do not control the information for which the Restaurant acts as the Data Controller, and you should ensure that you review the Restaurants’ privacy policies where applicable.
- Where we store your personal information
In practice, the personal data you provide to us by signing to receive our newsletters, marketing communications or booking data are hosted in the European Union or United States:
- For Marketing Data by our processors Tablet and Salesforce Imagino, or any other partner. Technical support is provided in the United States and, as a result, your personal data is accessible from the United States and is governed by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
- For Restaurant Booking data by our booking partners The Fork, OpenTable, TableCheck, or any other partner. The information may be stored on secure servers located in the European Economic Area, in the United States, or in any country where the partner’s headquarters are located.
- For Online account data hosted by our subsidiary Tablet. The information is stored on secure servers in the United States.
- Calendar event data and precise location data: hosted by our service provider Amazon Web Services; processing is carried out in the United States and, where applicable, is governed by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Although we are committed to protecting your personal information, the transmission of information over the Internet is not completely secure. Working together with our service providers, we will do our best to safeguard your personal information, but any information you transmit is done at your own risk.

We only share your personal information with individuals who need to know such information in order to perform their duties.
We may share your personal data in the following ways:
- Restaurants
We share Booking Data, reviews, and, where applicable, payment data or any other relevant information you provide to us with the Restaurants from which you request services. This information is provided to the Restaurants so they can continue to process and manage your booking and improve their services. Once we transfer your information to the Restaurant, the Restaurant becomes the Data Controller and we act as the Data Processor.
- Hotels
We share Booking Data, reviews, and, where applicable, payment data or any other relevant information you provide to us with the Hotels from which you request services. This information is provided to the Hotels so they can continue to process and manage your booking and improve their services. Once we transfer your information to the Hotel, the Hotel becomes the Data Controller and we act as the Data Processor.
- Partner Networks
When you book a restaurant through one of our Partner Networks (e.g., third-party restaurant booking websites), we share booking data, reviews, and any other relevant information you provide with that Partner Network. We never share payment data with Partner Networks. Once your information is transferred to the Partner Network, it becomes the Data Controller and we act as the Data Processor.
- Billing and Payment Providers
To make a reservation at certain Restaurants or Hotels, you may be required to provide a deposit or payment card details to secure your booking. In such cases, we rely on a payment partner who becomes the Data Controller for payment data. We encourage you to consult their privacy policy for more information.
- Within the Michelin Group
We may disclose your personal information to members of our group, meaning our subsidiaries, our ultimate parent company, and its subsidiaries, to the extent necessary to pursue the same purposes as described in this policy.
- Subcontractors
Michelin may share your personal data with subcontractors used to process your request or deliver services, including IT and system administration providers such as hosting, email services, review management, or analytics services to help us provide the best recommendations. These subcontractors are contractually obligated to ensure the confidentiality and security of the personal data they receive and may only process your personal data based on our instructions.

Michelin has implemented measures to protect the privacy, security and integrity of your personal data. Access to personal data is restricted to those employees and service providers who need to know this information and who have been trained to comply with rules on confidentiality.
On Michelin's commercial sites, banking information will be collected by an authorized payment service provider for the purposes of effective, legal secure payment processes.
