Many luxury hotels strive for architectural distinction, but the Singapore-based Capella brand is particularly serious about acquiring properties with history — and the Capella Sydney, housed in a Thirties landmark just off Circular Quay, certainly fits the bill. It’s impressively localized, full of tributes to Australian Aboriginal culture and history. And beneath its modern interior design and indigenous-inspired art it’s a state-of-the-art luxury hotel, as professional as any big chain and as full of personality as many boutiques. The rooms and suites are richly detailed, the spa is first-rate, and the restaurants are worthy additions to the Financial District scene.
