They’ve made it their mission to bring travelers to India’s less visited corners, and in that task this 19th-century hunting lodge succeeds admirably. Brij Lakshman Sagar is made up of a mere 12 cottages, set on 32 acres of land; safe to say it never feels busy.
The style is authentic to the region, and the cottages are decorated with riotous colors, a fine complement to the austere beauty of the Rajasthan badlands. Plunge pools are universal, and the property’s shared pool is a delight. Meanwhile the activities range from hikes and safaris to local liquor and tobacco tastings; the cuisine of Rajasthan is on display at Mardana, the hotel’s slow food–inspired restaurant.
