On the historic streets of Olhão, a small Algarve city just to the east of Faro, a 19th-century house has been restored to its circa-1870 splendor and opened to the public as a boutique hotel called Casa Amor. And while its historical aspect is part of its charm, it’s more than simply a restoration project; Casa Amor’s owners (and designers) have Parisian roots, and a cosmopolitan sensibility is evident throughout.
A mere ten rooms, decorated in a mix of antique furnishings and eclectic artworks, occupy the upper floors. What turns Casa Amor from a chic guest house into a proper boutique hotel are details like the little rooftop pool, the café with its French pastries, and the restaurant, where guests mingle with Olhão locals over local, seasonal dishes.
