Columbus Monte-Carlo, Curio Collection
For while it doesn’t scale quite the same luxurious heights as the principality’s big-name five-stars, what the Columbus does, it does quite well. The look is clean and contemporary, in restrained neutral tones, with nary a gilded tap to be found, a style and an atmosphere that could be called residential without a hint of exaggeration. The Classic rooms are certainly nothing to turn one’s nose up at, but it’s in the Deluxes and the suites that the Columbus begins to spread out; the junior suites are proper suites, with a sitting room and everything, and the suite suites are downright expansive, with balconies overlooking the gardens or the Mediterranean.
The service, while perhaps less visible than the five-star norm, is certainly no less professional. And the location is just slightly out of the way — enough for a touch of peace and quiet, but with the Place du Casino and the famous shopping district still close at hand.

To paraphrase another review on Tablet, this is a business hotel in a resort community. To give them credit, the hotel has upgraded the bathrooms and the room decor, so it was perfectly comfortable, but my room wasn't a place to linger and the bathroom was not a place to luxuriate. I had a balcony and a view of the harbor, but it was half a view and I was looking at dredging machines instead of super yachts. The balcony was fine for drying a wet bathing suit, but you wouldn't have a cocktail at sunset. That's not the hotel's fault, it just is what it is, and I was there to spend my days at other places in Monaco and the South of France with friends and clients, so I got just what I needed.

As a returning guest I can attest to the excellent facilities, elegant contemporary public spaces, a welcoming ambience and courteous and efficient staff. It benefits from a great location and close proximity to several restaurants and bars at the secluded Port de Fontvielle.
