This 17C stately home can only be described as superb, from its warm, elegant interior dripping in character to its exquisite terrace overlooking the magnificent garden. Chef Carl Wens’ food is as worthy of admiration as a listed monument, as he harnesses his extensive know-how and boundless passion in a bid to add a contemporary spin to a classical line-up. His son Wout can be relied on to add a youthful dimension thanks to delicate Asian notes. Deftly and intelligently devised and crafted, their food will awaken your senses. For example, the gutsy aroma of the spicy gravy that flanked wild duck immediately bowled us over. Contrasting textures such as kumquat and Cévennes onions further titillate the tastebuds, as the earthy scents and flavours of autumn explode in the mouth. When you take a seat in this splendid establishment, you can expect a meal, crafted by a family team that hits the spot every time.
