Treeline Urban Resort
First of all, don’t fret about the “urban.” While Siem Reap is indeed a busy city, the Siem Reap River isn’t exactly Fifth Avenue, and a low-slung, compound-style hotel like Treeline can easily achieve a tranquil seclusion. (One clue as to how is in the Treeline name itself — few hotels are as verdant as this one, inside and out.)
Indigenous stone and wood are the predominant materials, and while the aesthetic may be minimal, the experience is rich and organic. The furniture is handmade, the hotel is packed with local contemporary art, and the rooms and suites are decorated with warm textures and living plants. Not to say that high technology or high luxury are neglected — rain showers and Bluetooth speakers are standard, as are wi-fi and air conditioning, and the spa and rooftop infinity pool add a healthy dose of relaxation.
Meanwhile three different restaurants showcase three different perspectives on the local flavors, from an impeccable breakfast at Seed to a rooftop bite at Canopy or a street-inspired dinner at Hok Noodle Bar + Grill — as well as one of the city’s finest cafés in the form of Brown Coffee.
