Sitting in the heart of Oberammergau at the foot of the Ammergau Alps, Maximilian makes a cozy retreat for visitors to Bavaria’s largest nature reserve. Traditional rooms have been designed to cocoon with tactile fabrics and wooden beamed ceilings, and each comes with a view of the natural surroundings. There are two restaurants, Benedikt's and Ammergau Maxbräu, which also doubles up as a brewery where the hotel makes and serves its own craft beer. In summer, guests can also take their drinks outside to the shaded beer garden, which looks across the Ammergau Alps. The spa area is just the tonic after a day out exploring, hiking, and skiing with a Finnish sauna, steam room, whirlpool, hay bath and a selection of beauty and massage treatments.
