It’s not all that common for the proprietors of an English country-house hotel to engage the services of a New York–based interior design studio. But then again Roman and Williams isn’t an ordinary design firm. This creative partnership is responsible for the look and feel of many of the finest boutique and luxury hotels in the United States. And they’re perfectly capable of adapting their work to an overseas setting — Estelle Manor isn’t a New Yorker’s caricature of Oxfordshire, but a fantastic and fanatically detailed vision of timeless country-house hospitality.
Estelle Manor is the sister to a London members’ club called Maison Estelle, but by virtue of its setting — there’s quite a bit less incidental foot traffic in the Cotswolds than in Mayfair — it can turn its focus from exclusivity to full-on conviviality. There’s space for quite a few guests, thanks to the diversity of accommodations, which range across the main house, the converted stables, and a number of freestanding cottages and houses. All, at every level, combine luxe comfort with arresting, era-spanning design.
Meanwhile the manor’s 60-acre estate, and the wider context of 3,000 acres of parkland, offer plenty to do outside the house — and there’s the rest of Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds to explore as you wish. Just don’t be surprised if you’re tempted to remain on site, as Estelle Manor is provided with a capacious spa and fitness complex, a Roman-style bath, and a multitude of dining and drinking venues in some of the house’s most memorable spaces.
