A lovely Regency house in the Scottish Highlands provides the raw material for this eight-room family-owned and operated hotel, but if you’re expecting a period piece, you’re in for a surprise — Boath House is respectful of its surroundings, but the rooms are furnished in a vibrant mix of vintage and modern pieces, and the comforts are thoroughly modern, without the slightest fear of anachronism. A thoughtful and high-quality garden café with British, French, and Italian influences has replaced the Michelin-starred one, whose status the owners found to be more a burden than a blessing.
