When Berliners need a break from the big city, they escape to the Spreewald, a fairytale forest dotted with quiet meadows and crisscrossed with canals. It’s possible to make it a day trip, but it’s more relaxing to stay over at a boutique hotel like Strandhaus Spreewald. This sustainably built hotel is set on a lush green landscape on the bank of the Spree River, and its design makes the most of it: an open-air beer garden and riverfront lawn offer ample outdoor lounge space, and many guest rooms have balconies or terraces with water views.
