The stately corner building at Vesterbrogade 9/a, located in Vesterbro – one of Copenhagen’s trendiest neighbourhoods – has operated as a hotel for almost a century. Following extensive renovations, it reopened in 2023 with a new name and a refreshed identity, and is now part of the NH brand.
Housed within a beautifully restored 19th-century structure, the hotel effortlessly combines its historic architectural elements with contemporary Scandinavian design. Its interiors are inspired by ‘Joanne’ – an imaginary, well-travelled, open-minded woman whose personality influences every detail of the space. This is reflected in the soft, feminine textures and in meeting rooms dedicated to three real, influential women from Danish culture.
The rooms are bright and airy, with high ceilings and a modern yet down-to-earth decor. Natural materials feature throughout, from wicker lampshades and raffia headboards to linen curtains and light wood furnishings. The atmosphere is distinctly cosy, suited to the Nordic climate, with plush patterned carpets, fluffy down duvets, heated floors, and playful touches such as custom stationery, vintage-style vanity mirrors, and bathrooms clad in retro bronze tiles.
The dining offering is varied, ranging from Joanne’s Italian Restaurant & Bar to the "Danish bodega" Pinden and a charming rooftop bar.
