Contemporary Classic en Lively
The legendary Broadmoor has stood at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain since 1891 — a near-eternity in the American West. For decades it’s been one of Colorado’s most iconic hotels, a sprawling Italian neoclassical compound against a backdrop of dramatic skies and purple mountain majesty. This is a destination resort, to be sure; it’s the rare Broadmoor guest who just happens to have business in sleepy Colorado Springs. They’re here for the golf, for the scenery, and for the award-winning hospitality.
Most recently it’s had a sort of preemptive renovation; it was in fine shape before and now it’s as posh as ever. The seven hundred guest rooms are spread amongst a number of buildings, from the historic main building to the more modern additions. All are elegantly designed, European in style (not a hint of Old West rusticism), furnished with rich antiques and chandeliers, many bathrooms with soaking tubs and separate showers.
A wide array of restaurants, bars and lounges serve the Broadmoor, a necessity owing to its size and relative isolation. Cuisine and service ranges from formal Continental cuisine, supported by an extensive wine list, to casual American fare.
Three golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Donald Ross make the Broadmoor a magnet for golfing enthusiasts. For the rest of us, there’s a world-class tennis facility, featuring nine plex-cushion courts with views of the Rockies, as well as three swimming pools and a spa and fitness center. And for the amateur mountaineer, Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods are within easy reach.
