SUJÁN Sher Bagh

SUJÁN Sher Bagh is the original SUJÁN tented camp, built back in 2000 by a family of wildlife filmmakers who, while not luxury hoteliers, have managed to combine modern comforts with a deep respect for the natural surroundings. Set on the edge of Ranthambhore National Park, also known as India’s most celebrated Tiger Reserve, and a natural habitat for the Royal Bengal Tiger, Sher Bagh’s nine Tented Jungle Suites sport an old-world safari style with handcrafted rosewood furniture, brass bathtubs and stone showers, and private verandas for taking in the views of nature. The semicircular layout of the camp means your neighbors are easy to ignore, but if you are looking for more privacy then the more secluded, and romantic, Royal Sher Suite comes with its own heated plunge pool, an outdoor fireplace and an open-air tree shower and bathtub. Top billing, however, is given to the Imperial Raj Bagh Suite thanks to its two bedrooms, private swimming pool and large deck.

There’s an outdoor fireplace for swapping safari stories around the campfire under the starlit sky, as well as a library lounge and the Jungle Bar where cocktails are mixed to secret recipes. Dinner is served in the dining tent using produce from Sher Bagh’s own organic gardens, farm and dairy. Days are often spent out on game drives, as well as tigers there are leopards, sloths and some 300 species of birds to spot, but there are many other experiences on offer such as cooking classes, guided excursions to local NGOs or Ranthambhore Fort, an 8th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site, or simply enjoy some relaxation time by the heated outdoor pool or in the SUJÁN Spa.

Please note: Sher Bagh operates seasonally. The property is open from early October to mid-May.

How to get there: The nearest airport to Sher Bagh is in Jaipur, 170 kilometers away. There is an airfield in Sawai Madhopur, 14 kilometers from Sher Bagh and a helipad, 4 kilometers from the camp. The nearest rail center is Sawai Madhopur Junction, located 12 kilometers away. There are several trains each day from Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and other cities. It takes either 3.5 hours or 5.5 hours (depending on the train you choose) from Delhi, overnight from Mumbai, 3 hours from Jaipur, and 7 hours from Jodhpur.
