This stately 18th-century building wears its Gustavian style proudly, and while in its current incarnation it’s a thoroughly modern luxury boutique hotel, it’s as far as it gets from minimalism — a 2010 renovation updated its classic opulence with a contemporary color sense and the full complement of modern comforts.
The rooms and suites range widely in size, in classic European grand-hotel style, and if there’s a touch of a French accent about the aesthetic, it’s matched by the cuisine in Brasserie Makalös, which serves Parisian fare in a soaring courtyard space, while the adjacent Crystal Bar stands beneath what must be Stockholm’s largest chandelier.
