Contemporary Classic & Lively
Montmartre holds a special place in the romantic imagination of many visitors to Paris, and Monsieur Aristide leans into the romance, embracing the neighborhood’s bohemian charm. Which isn’t to say this boutique hotel isn’t innovative on its own terms. The 19th-century building was a longtime fixture on the local hotel scene — the wood-paneled reception desk, with its quaint rows of key hooks, is original, as is the vintage cocktail bar with its curving booths and retro Wurlitzer — before it was snapped up and smartly updated by an emerging hotelier and added to the Adresses Hôtels collection.
The place is named after a French cabaret singer portrayed in some of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s famous posters, and an artistic theme prevails, with musical instruments and flea market-sourced treasures adding to the eclectic look. Rooms and suites are set around a picturesque interior garden, and some of them open directly onto the garden, while upper-level rooms have private terraces with views over Paris’s rooftops. The decor is unique in each room, naturally — one has an antique dressing table and velvet armchairs, another a glowing globe lamp and an old leather travel trunk — but concrete flooring, natural linen drapery, and working rotary phones, mounted bedside, are standard features. A leisurely breakfast is served in the garden, and Aristide’s bistro and speakeasy-style bar stay open late.
