San Ignacio Resort Hotel
It’s also family-owned and operated, and has been since 1976. And while that’s not always a guarantee of a superior experience, your hosts’ commitment is evident — they’ve kept the place very much up to date. The rooms range from cozy and comfortable to spacious and subtly stylish, and the better ones have views of the jungle canopy or the Macal River.
The Running W Steakhouse & Restaurant features meats from the family ranch, and the Lobby Bar is something of a local hotspot, with live music on some weekend nights. From here you’d be remiss if you didn’t explore the Belizean rainforest — while the estate and its iguana habitat are impressive, you’ll want to venture further afield as well, and the hotel is happy to arrange tours and excursions.
