Hotel Hartness
This is a proper luxury boutique hotel, one whose 73 rooms and suites are retro-inspired but contemporary in their atmosphere. The queen and king rooms are spacious enough, but naturally it’s the suites that truly shine, both those in the main house and the four that adjoin the Spa H, with their furnished balconies and views of the nature preserve. Meanwhile the twin social hearts of the Hartness are Patterson Kitchen + Bar, a restaurant serving sophisticated Southern fare showcasing Upstate South Carolina ingredients, and the Captain, a wine and cocktail bar in a warm and elegant space adjoining the main house’s central Great Room.

I think this hotel still has a lot to learn about the luxury resort space. They didn’t go out of their way to make the stay special. Also marketing themselves as a “retreat” on 180 acres seems deliberately misleading. They are currently leveling pieces of their property to build over crowded housing developments. We had a nice balcony view of what was once a forest but now a bulldozed piece of land awaiting more houses to be built.

Classy. Stunning. Elegant. Beautiful. These would be the words to describe the hotel. The decor, furniture, and design of the hotel lobby, dining area, common area, sitting down space, This hotel is a work of art. It's one of the nicest hotels I've ever been to and I've been to A LOT of hotels.
