Balanced between historical authenticity and contemporary luxury, Tambo del Inka stands out in the Incan Sacred Valley as Urubamba’s only hotel with a private train station offering access to Machu Picchu — dining and observation cars included. Settled at the foot of Chicón mountain and along the Vilcamayo River, guests of Tambo del Inka enjoy a five-minute walk to Urubamba’s Plaza de Armas and shops and restaurants of the Sacred Valley’s urban hub. The interiors are handsome, featuring Andean fabrics and clean design, and there are magnificent views from nearly every resort location, such as the Kallpa spa, or the indoor pool, filled with Incan waters. A welcoming stone hearth stands central at Tambo del Inka’s dining room, where New Andean dishes are served with locally sourced produce.
