Sankt Peter-Ording, on the North Sea, is a popular destination for Germans who come to soak in the hot springs and walk or ride horses on the wide beach lined with quiet forests. Just behind the dunes, Hotel Zweite Heimat is one of the more elegant places to stay. This boutique hotel has a rustic-chic beach-house atmosphere, with wide wood-planked floors and a laid-back honor bar where you can pour your own coffee or beer. Guest rooms are spacious and modern, with breakfast nooks or lounge spaces and views of the woods, the sand, or a nearby lake — some have private balconies. There’s a spa but not a pool; a sunny terrace is lovely for breakfast or sunbathing, and the restaurant serves seasonal cuisine based on locally sourced ingredients.
