For a low-maintenance, high-style lodging in the very heart of the Icelandic capital it’s hard to improve on the Reykjavík Residence Apartment Hotel. Its units are distributed among a small handful of buildings (including the former Prime Minister’s residence) just one street to the north of Laugavegur, the city’s main shopping avenue, and is within walking distance of the vast majority of this compact city’s sights — and, crucially for a self-catering apartment-style hotel, its restaurants. Even the studios are spacious enough, with kitchenettes and en-suite baths, and the suites and apartments spread out to more conventionally residential dimensions.
