On a walking street in the heart of historic Porto, right next door to the Misericórdia church and museum, PortoBay Flores is quite literally a collision of the old and the new: a 16th-century palace with a brand-new addition, and inside a thoroughly modern luxury boutique hotel. The 11 rooms and suites in the old palace offer classic architectural details, but the 55 in the new wing are scarcely less attractive. The hotel’s Mandalay Spa imports Indian and Thai therapies, while the Bistrô Flores and the Bar dos Maias offer a modern haute-cuisine spin on Portuguese traditions.
